The year was 1999, the millennium bug was nigh and Nike were slowly moving away from Air and exploring alternative tooling methods. Yet still, the extensive arsenal of A-list Air Max models was not without a few extra additions. Trailing on two years post the wide success of the Air Max 97, designs were clad with futuristic motifs and colourways. While a distant relative was tuning a cult following, the Air Max Deluxe was forging its own path. Ahead of its time, the Deluxe was not for the faint hearted, sporting a visually stunning display of colour schemes and reflective tooling. Its unmistakable allure was the make-all or break-all for many footwear fanatics. Now after almost 20 years, the Deluxe is back and ready to turn heads once again.
The Air Max Deluxe demands attention through a vibrant sublimated gradient print, inspired by sound waves of the same era. Absent of leather or suede, the design is a future-forward assembly of curved contours twisting around a seamless mesh upper, riddled with 3M dotted lines to catch the eye. A smooth TPU exoskeleton reinforces the flexible upper, providing support and structure. Down on the ground, the Deluxe borrows tooling introduced on the Air Max 97 through the same multi-window full-length Air unit.
The Nike Air Max Deluxe Blue Black is the latest vintage silhouette to enjoy a major revival. This is the first colourway to debut as part of a re-release for 2018 – keep it locked to our social media pages for more updates and alerts on the run up to launch.
